Working in collaboration with the Research Centre for Prediction of Earthquakes and Volcanic Eruptions, Tohoku University (Japan), Kyoto University (Japan) and the University of Canterbury, Southern Geophysical has been maintaining the Japanese seismic network since 2011. With presently 45 seismic stations throughout the northern half of the South Island (4 million hectares) the network has and continues to collect invaluable research data which complements the more sparsely spaced real time Geonet network.

Southern Geophysical undertakes six monthly maintenance on the seismic network, typically resulting in two weeks of traversing our beautiful and rugged landscape in rain, sun or snow to keep the network running at optimum capability.
